Chi Wing Lo is not a typical Hong Kong artist. Raised in Hong Kong, he studied in Canada and the U.S., receiving his Master Degree with a best thesis prize in Architecture from Harvard University in 1988. Residing in Athens, Greece, he has a multidisciplinary practice, integrating architecture, interior and furniture designs for exclusive projects worldwide.

Over a span of time and distance, Lo has received numerous international recognitions. Founder of CHI WING LO Furniture & Design, he is the only Chinese architect and designer to be welcome within the prestigious circle of Italian designers. An art director for Giorgetti from 2004-2006, he was one of the Italian delegates to be tasked with bringing the spirit of Italian design to Russia in 2006. In 2007, he was invited by Hong Kong Government to contribute a design commemorating the 10th anniversary of HK's reunification to China. In 2009, he was chairman of the jury for St. Petersburg Design Biennale. In the same year, he was nominated for the Mies van der Rohe Prize in Architecture for his Tower House in Athens. In 2010, he chaired and organized an international design conference addressing the need for Chinese original design in Guangzhou.

This exhibition, Vision of a Civilization, is a sequel to his first solo exhibition 'Chi Wing Lo – Landscapes and Objects' in Stuttgart, 1992. Here, he returns to his earlier drawings and realizes them afresh as sculptures. From drawing to sculpture, from an imaginary object on a white piece of paper to an object in space, Lo wants to heighten the poetic tension between known and unknown, real and imaginary, familiar and enigmatic. This exactitude of ambivalence, Lo believes, will help his work cut through the drifting current of time. From our aggravated existence to his frictionless province suspended beyond, there lies a new infinity where Lo raises the stature and plausibility of his objects.
